New York Attorney General Issues Alert to Warn Consumers of Companies Offering OTC Hearing Aids

The Attorney General of New York issued a Consumers alert warning the of New York to be aware of sellers offering over the counter hearing aids. The warning also stated that who feel they are misdirected or scammed can file a complaint with OAG. According to the laws formed in New York, it bans the companies who sell over the counter hearing aids.

New York only allows licensed audiologists or hearing aid dispensers make ad of hearing aids or sell OTC hearing aids. Recently, the US FDA proposed a rule permitting sell of new category hearing aids to be sold directly to Consumers without requiring an exam.

The New York attorney general warned that while OTC hearing aids can be defective or may even fail to treat hearing loss. He mentioned that there have been ads for new OTC hearing aids targeting New York Consumers even though the hearing aids are not yet approved by FDA.

Attorney General recommended some important points Consumers should keep in mind before considering buying a hearing aid. The tips like, beware of misleading information, do your research, take advice of medical professional before buying the hearing aid, know your rights have been recommended by the Attorney General. The warning also stated that Consumers who feel they are misdirected or scammed can file a complaint with OAG.
